Gonça Rodrigues

Gonçalo Rodrigues, plastic artist, born in May, 1999, in Massarelos, Porto, Portugal. Graduated in Plastic Arts, with a specialization in sculpture, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto.

During his degree, he already participated in some exhibitions, including the collective exhibition “Lume Brando”, at the St.Thyrso factory, (2021); the group exhibition Prêmio Árvore das Virtues, Cooperativa Árvore, (2021); the group exhibition INTERVALO – BEFORE AND AFTER, THE DRAWING”, Júlio Resende Foundation (The place of drawing),(2021). From a young age with a great interest in art, enjoying it as a way of grasping or seeking for answers to the existential questions that plague the mind, always very connected to the materiality and plastic and communicative possibilities of the various artistic languages. With a great interest in questions of memory, ephemerality, questioning and personal and societal/political reflections, he resorts to multidisciplinary practices as a way of combining several languages in communicative tools and exploration of the most interior and personal dimension, articulating not only the questioning of his own presence and identity in the world, as well as the way this presence is conditioned/constructed by the exterior that surrounds it. Art then emerges as a vehicle for a personal solution, and as an impetus for a possible more general reflection, for everyone who receives it.
