Norbert Okpu is a visual artist of Africa descent. He is from Nigeria and he is currently resident in lagos.
He was born 18th April 1970 in a place called Umutu, he is an indigen of Emu-Uno in Delta state. His art journey started from a very tender age which has led him into studying fine and applied art in Yaba college of technology yaba, a prestigious institution that is known for its excellence in the field of art. He majored in painting and graduated in 1999 with College award as the best over all student in the school of art design and printing, Insight communication award as the best graduating student in life drawing, Jeromilaho award as the best graduating student in painting and also Fasuyi award as the best graduating student in the school of art design and printing. The style of His works is surrealism, His dynamic abilities has also enabled him to explore the use of other materials like fabric, wood, charcoal, water color and found objects including natural leaf. He is a member of the society of Nigerian artist and currently the general secretary of the guild of professional fine artist of Nigeria. He has had five solo exhibition and over thirty group exhibitions both in his own country Nigeria, Ghana, USA, london and an exhibition of works at the national gallery of Nigeria that toured the world. In 2012 he featured in a group exhibition at Amsterdam Whitney gallery USA and had artist representation with the gallery for one year. He has had artist in residency with the national gallery of art Nigeria and also with Vermont studio center in Johnson Vermont USA. He featured in transcending boundaries at lace contemporary gallery in the UK in 2015, HE also featured in black to the future Art village gallery 2018 in Memphis Tennessee. In 2023 he exhibited in Nigeria contemporary at Cavalieri art hotel Malta and Artfullyspaced gallery USA. His works has featured in many art auctions. The Lagos boat club art auction, Terrakulture and Mydrim art auction, Arthouse contemporary art auction and Sogal art auctions. His works has also been featured in several press releases like The profile of a rising modernist by Doc. Irokanulo Ikemefula Emmanuel, Nigerian abstract painting now by Jess Castellote, Modernpainters magazine Sept. 2012 artinfo.com and Art in America Chelseart Sept-Oct 2012. His works are in the collection of National gallery of art Nigeria, Mr Sammy Olagbaju, Prince Omoba Yemisi Shillon, Chief Gbadamosi, Mr Yinka Fisher etc. His works will always add timeless quality, prestige and value to any collection that has the honour and privilege of having it within its fold.
